If you have to watch over anyone that has a handicap then this will help enormously. My mother has arthritis and is unstable on her feet. You can’t tie her down and you can’t be on her side 100% of the time even you need to go to the bathroom or take the garbage out, etc. For these brief moments you can still react fast when you get the emergency call on your mobile phone, of course you have to make sure your carrying your phone on you at all time and you have to teach your person for whom you have the responsibility, to always hang the small transmitter around their neck and USE IT.

I live in a medium-sized patio home and have tested using the panic button in each room. Some easily activate the unit and in some rooms or locations it does not. I was tempted to send it back, but decided to keep it. I just hope and pray that if my wife truly needs help, it will pick up the alert. Unit was fairly easy to program. You have to record a panic message, which doesn’t come over really clear, but clear enough to get the message out.

The design has a fatal flaw, January 6, 2010

The design of the Avair Medical Alert has a fatal flaw which renders it useless in an emergency. Here’s what’s wrong: you can program the unit to dial up to 9 different numbers in an emergency. But there is NO WAY FOR A PERSON WHO RESPONDS TO PREVENT THE MACHINE FROM DIALING ALL THE REST OF THE NUMBERS!. In other words, if you program 9 numbers, the machine will ALWAYS dial all 9 numbers, and that means that all the people reached will respond to the emergency! I called AVAIR and the representative told me that the company did not intend this machine to work this way, but that is the way it came from the manufacturer! In other words, they are selling a defective product knowingly. I am returning mine ASAP and will be calling the Better Business Bureau in Oregon.
